Floating Bridge | Experience 360° tour and facts about one of the engineering marvels in Dubai

Facts about Floating-Bridge-Dubai

Dubai Floating Bridge: One among the prestigious projects of  National Polystyrene Packaging Factory, Dubai

Dubai Floating Bridge is a pontoon bridge located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The bridge was built between Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum Bridges mainly to reduce traffic in Al Maktoum Bridge. The bridge connects across the intersection near Deira City Centre and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, and ends at the intersection with the Riyadh Street, between Dubai Courts and the Creek Park.

Floating bridges are in many ways an anomaly. Dubai floating bridge is one of this kind and is one of the engineering marvels in Dubai. It is the first of its kind in the Emirate and carries six lanes over the Dubai Creek. This pontoon bridge has a width of 2 x 22m and a total length of 365m.

To compensate for differences in level as well as for transverse inclinations (healing) and longitudinal displacements resulting from traffic loads and wave action acting on the ramp, another two rows of 28 transitory elements are installed between the floating pontoons and the transitory ramp on either bank.

The construction of the bridge was in such a way that the energy from waves and pressure from vehicles are dynamically distributed across the length and breadth of the platform and cancels each other out.

23 standard elements filled with highly resistant polystyrene plates manufactured by National Polystyrene Packaging Factory,Dubai and these Polystyrene blocks serve as the actual floating body supporting several thousands of tons of the heavy bridge on the water level.

The bridge was assembled in the day and night shifts in the record time of only 23 days. Altogether the time for design, foundation works, bank installations, as well as manufacture and installation of the steel structures added up to merely 10 months.
